Nokia job cuts announced
Nokia phone
In August Nokia announced it was cutting 900 jobs
The world's largest phone producer has announced plans to cut 130 jobs at its Surrey base as part of a global cost reduction programme.

Nokia, which employs 2,000 staff in the UK, said the job losses at its research and development site in Camberley would help to improve the efficiency of its network business.

A further 420 staff will be laid off at its networks operations in the United States, Sweden and Finland.

A spokesman for the Finnish group said some of the affected employees would be redeployed elsewhere within the group.

Reduce costs

Nokia networks has been hit by a continuing worldwide slump in demand for its network equipment.

In August it announced that about 900 jobs would be cut, mainly within network delivery and maintenance services.

In a statement, Nokia said it was aiming to "increase efficiency and operational synergies as well as to reduce costs".

Nokia Networks, which employs some 18,500 people worldwide, represents approximately 22% of group sales.
