Plans for a wind farm on the Kent-Sussex border are being opposed.

East Sussex County Council has objected to the development on Marshland at Little Cheyne Farm near Rye.

The plans will be eventually decided by Shepway District Council, but East Sussex County Council was asked for its views on the scheme.

National Wind Power's scheme is for 26 turbines costing �40m to �50m.

Adverse effects

Each turbine would be 116 metres high and would generate enough electricity to power 35,000 homes.

The wind farm would provide sufficient power for every home in Rye and Camber as well as the Shepway district in Kent.

Environmentalists had urged the county council to back the wind farm.

But members of the planning and highways committee judged it would affect on the open remote countryside, the habitat and birdlife.
