Parts of the deck and gun deck were badly damaged

A Portsmouth warship which was hit by a ferry blown off course by heavy winds has been repaired.

It has taken three months to patch up HMS St Albans - the Navy's newest warship.

Last November the P&O ferry, the Pride of Portsmouth, scraped its bow along the side of the frigate as she struggled against gale force winds in Portsmouth harbour.

The warship had just been handed over to the Navy and was due to undergo sea trials when the accident happened.

The collision caused damage to several parts of the deck, the gun deck, the sea boat supports and the bridge wing of the frigate.
