| Thursday, 6 February, 2003, 17:24 GMT Artist gets a kick out of curry ![]() Mr Stitt will kick the takeaway through Bedford An artist is planning to highlight the problem of anti-social youths - by kicking a take-away curry carton through a town centre. Andre Stitt believes the stunt will question the actions of youngsters who gather in Bedford town centre at night. The action - entitled White Trash Curry Kick - is part of a nine-performance project which has secured 12,200 of arts council cash. His first involved him parading through Bedford with a hod loaded with bricks while dressed in an Italian football shirt.
All the performances are under the heading of The Bedford Project and are being filmed and photographed. They will form part of an art exhibition to be shown in the town this autumn. Bedford Creative Arts, which is putting together the unusual exhibition, said Mr Stitt's planned curry kicking performance was inspired by the behaviour of some youths. Its statement read: "Like so many provincial towns in Britain, Bedford undergoes a remarkable metamorphosis on Saturday nights transforming itself from sleepy market town into a magnet for young people who are out for excitement. 'Revelry questioned' "The artist proposes to destabilise and question this revelry by kicking a take away curry and carton from one end of the High Street to the other." White Trash Curry Kick takes place in Bedford on 29 March. Other performances by former bricklayer Mr Stitt are reported to include dropping red roses from an aircraft in memory of wartime band leader Glenn Miller, sitting in a garden shed talking to anybody who visits him and taking stuffed animals from Bedford's museum to nearby woods. | See also: 03 Jan 03 | Entertainment 13 Dec 02 | England 16 May 02 | Entertainment Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
