A Shropshire football club physiotherapist who was diagnosed with cancer has raised �20,000 for charity.

Shrewsbury Town's physiotherapist Simon "Shakey" Shakeshaft launched his campaign in June last year after he discovered he had testicular cancer.

"It was a pretty awful experience so I decided to launch a fund with the Go Sports Mad day, which is the Institute of Cancer Research campaign," he said.

"I decided to see if I could raise some money."

Secondary cancer

Mr Shakeshaft spends most of his time organising events to raise money for the charity and a recent auction of signed football prints and a quiz night helped to raise �20,000.

But he recently suffered a fresh blow when he was diagnosed with secondary cancer of the lung.

However his daughter Georgia keeps him smiling, her birth three years ago was something of a miracle, after previous treatment for Testicular cancer had supposedly left him infertile.

Jamie Tolley, Shrewsbury Town midfielder, said: "All the lads know what Shakey's been through in the past and he's had some bad news of late so the other night with the quiz and everything, we are behind him 100%.

"Hopefully he will pull through this one like he has the past two."
