| Tuesday, 4 February, 2003, 15:03 GMT Experts back plans to widen A14 ![]() The plans will be put before local planning authorities Transport experts have proposed that the A14 should be widened into three lanes from Northamptonshire to Cambridgeshire in order to ease congestion. The suggestion has been outlined in a planning blueprint for the region that was published on Tuesday. Consultants, commissioned by the Government Office for the East, have been assessing transport problems for roads between London and the East Midlands. As a result, they have now drawn up a 30-year blueprint to deal with both road and rail congestion. The main proposal is to make the A14 a three-lane super-route in both directions running from Junction 19 of the M1 in Northamptonshire all the way to the A11 junction in Cambridgeshire. The blueprint also suggests that a new rail service should be introduced between Northampton and Bedford. All the proposals will now be put to regional planning authorities, before they are passed to the Government for a decision. | See also: 30 Jan 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
