Slough could get its own version of Monopoly, thanks to hit BBC series The Office.

The game's makers believe a Slough spin-off would be successful because of the popularity of the television show which is set in the Berkshire town.

Slough, famously maligned by Poet Laureate John Betjeman who invited "friendly bombs" to fall on his home town, would be the smallest place to get its own board.

But it must first win against Windsor and Reading, as all three are being considered by Winning Moves, the company that specialises in spin-offs from the classic game of property wheeler-dealing.

Mayfair slot

Local people could then vote to choose the landmarks on each square, like those in Sunderland who opted to put the local football stadium in the most expensive Mayfair slot.

Graham Barnes of Winning Moves said: "There are lots of different regional Monopoly games, but mostly for the north.

"We want to do one for the south and because of the Office we thought let's go for Slough.

"But we're also looking at Reading and Windsor and won't make a decision until March."

The new Monopoly game is expected to be on sale in time for Christmas 2003.
