| Friday, 24 January, 2003, 15:03 GMT Prince's garden in TV profile ![]() The prince employs the traditional craft of hedge-laying The organic garden nurtured by Prince Charles at his Highgrove home in Gloucestershire is to be profiled in a BBC television documentary. The prince gave a team from the BBC's Bristol-based Natural History Unit unprecedented access to the 25-acre garden and 1,000-acre farm over the course of a year. The programme on Sunday, will be narrated by David Attenborough and gives an insight into the organic farming and gardening methods used by the Prince of Wales and his staff. The prince is seen hedgelaying, planting in a newly-created woodland garden and feeding birds.
He fills the bird feeders daily when he is at home during the winter months. The documentary includes filming in the walled kitchen garden, along a tulip walk and in a vast wildlife meadow. On the farm, the prince has a herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle, a large Ayrshire dairy herd and two flocks of sheep. David Attenborough said: "It is the prince's determination to work with nature rather than against it which makes Highgrove special. "While some of his methods draw on tradition, he believes that combined with modern thinking they offer a glimpse of a new future for farmers and gardeners." The programme's producer, Sarah Pitt, said: "The prince has very strong views about his garden and is very concerned that he is actively involved. "And what really comes out in the film of course is the beauty of the place." Natural World: Highgrove - a Prince's Legacy is on BBC Two at 1825 GMT on Sunday, 26 January. | See also: 20 Jan 03 | UK 06 Jan 03 | England 28 Dec 02 | UK 06 Nov 02 | England 22 Sep 02 | UK Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
