More Peugeot workers vote to strike
Workers picketing the Peugeot works
Workers at Peugeot last went on strike in 2000
A second group of workers at Peugeot's Ryton car plant near Coventry have voted to strike in a dispute over pay.

Members of Amicus union voted to take action a day after Transport and General Workers' Union members also voted to strike.

The company's latest pay deal was overwhelmingly rejected by workers in November

Peugeot described its offer as being worth an average of 7.3% over two years.

'Successful plant'

However the TGWU disputes that, claiming the deal is worth between 3% and 3.5% in the first year and less than that in year two.

The TGWU's deputy general secretary Tony Woodley said the pay offer didn't match other settlements in the car industry.

He said: "Our members want a pay offer which reflects their commitment to making Ryton one of the most successful car plants in Europe.

"The message to the company is very clear and concise in the light of this vote - think again and come back to the negotiating table."

A spokesman from Peugeot said strike action would have serious consequences for customers.

He said: "It is important that everyone now realises that decisions taken by the trades unions in the next few days will have a long term effect on the future.

"It would have serious consequences for our customers, both in the UK and overseas, our employees, in terms of lost earnings and, potentially, future investment and employment prospects."
