London transport 'as bad as ever'
Congestion charge zone
It will cost 5 to enter central London from 17 February
Most of London's businesses have noticed no improvement in the capital's transport system over the past year, according to a survey.

Complaints included expensive parking, too many road works, train delays and overcrowded buses.

A poll by London Chamber of Commerce found up to 95% of businesses believed there had been no improvement in London's transport.

Of those questioned, 37% used the Tube as the main form of transport, 33% used cars and 30% trains.

It is time for Transport for London and the government to take note of the transport difficulties that London businesses face

The survey also found 48% of businesses supported public sector borrowing to invest in the Tube while 36% were in favour of using private money and 15% in favour of taxation.

The chamber's director of campaigns, Piers Merchant, said: "Londoners have suffered for long enough with inadequate transport systems.

"It is time for Transport for London (TfL) and the government to take note of the transport difficulties that London businesses face."

TfL recently reported more Londoners are using the buses now than at any time since 1975.

New bus routes have been introduced in the run-up to the congestion charge, due to be introduced on 17 February.

Environmental campaigners Transport 2000 recently reported that an extra 1bn had been spent on buses in London and services have been greatly improved as a result.
