'Bobbies on bicycles' prove capital idea
City of London
York police are to demonstrate use of bikes in the City
Police pedal power will be coming to the streets of the capital with the help of two York officers.

The York "bobbies on bicycles" patrols have been so successful in dealing with crime in the city's narrow streets, their know-how is being used in London.

The two policemen from York who set up the mountain bike patrols are now going to advise police in the Square Mile on setting up their own cycle squad.

The approach from their southern colleagues will see Inspector Nigel Tottie and Pc Steve Harvey going out on patrol through some of the busiest streets to demonstrate the cycle team's efficiency.
