| Friday, 17 January, 2003, 09:09 GMT Showdown looms over illegal extension ![]() Neighbours described the extension as "horrendous" Time has run out for a Shropshire man ordered by planners to demolish part of his home built without permission. Sylvester Nseowo was last month given a final 28 days to pull down an extension to his five-bedroom home at Checkley Lane, St Georges, Telford or face having bulldozers sent in. Mr Nseowo has already been fined 20,000 for refusing to comply with the order. He could ultimately face jail if he refuses to back down.
Speaking to BBC Radio Shropshire, Mr Nseowo said the council had acted unfairly: "They have abused the privilege of planning permission. "They have been paid three times for planning permission.
"And they have also been paid a final 6,200. "That is a private building on private land. "Anyone who wishes to enter my land must obtain my permission. "That building will remain on that land - tell them to mind their own business." Neighbours have criticised the addition to Mr Nseowo's home. 'Horrendous' Colin Evans said: "I just cannot put in to words how horrendous it is. "The front of the house looks lovely on a lovely estate but the rear looks terrible." Neighbours have also voiced fears that the condition of Mr Nseowo's home could make it difficult to sell their own houses. A judge has already described the building work as being clearly in breach of planning law. | See also: 06 Jan 03 | England 11 Oct 02 | England 12 Aug 02 | Wales 28 Jun 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
