Boy killed in stolen car named
Liam Richardson
Liam Richardson was one of four teenagers in the car
A 13-year-old boy who died after a stolen car overturned in County Durham has been named as Liam Richardson.

He was one of four teenagers in a Vauxhall Astra which had been taken from outside a house in Ferryhill about 45 minutes before the crash at 1900 GMT on Thursday.

The Astra was travelling North West along Station Lane in West Cornforth, near Ferryhill, when it left the road.

On landing it went out of control, and swerved into the nearside verge before overturning and crashing into the boundary fence of a scrapyard.

Hand injury

The youngster was confirmed dead at the scene by a local GP, and the road was closed for more than five hours.

The three other occupants of the car were aged 13, 14 and 16.

The 13-year-old and the 16-year-old were unhurt, but the 14-year-old suffered serious hand injuries, and is being treated at Middlesbrough General Hospital.

Investigators have so far been unable to confirm who was driving.

The uninjured youngsters have been arrested, questioned and released on bail.

The dead youngster lived with his mother Angela, stepfather Gary, and younger brother Ben in Raby Road, Ferryhill.
