Liverpool lined up for heritage title
Liverpool's waterfront
The status may add weight to the city's culture bid
Liverpool's famous waterfront could rank alongside historic buildings including the Taj Mahal and the Parthenon.

The city is expected to be announced as the UK's latest choice for World Heritage Site Status.

It is thought the Department of Culture, Media and Sport is planning to send a delegation to Liverpool to make the announcement at the end of January.

The proposal then goes before the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation - which has the final say in July.

It is hoped the title will add weight to the city bid to become European Capital of Culture 2008.
