Disabled worries at Kendal traffic changes
Kendal - freefoto.com
Councillors say road changes should cater for all
Disabled drivers fear they may lose parking spaces in Kendal because of efforts to make traffic flow more freely.

Engineers are drawing up the second phase of changes, which could include restrictions on delivery vehicles, and a bus lane through Stricklandgate.

But Disability Action in the town says there could be unintended consequences for drivers with disabilities if parking spaces are lost.

Council officials say the proposals are still at the early stages.

Shopping slump

Stuart Pate from Cumbria County council said: "There may be some difficult decisions to be made, but it should be possible to accommodate everyone."

Last year there were protests from shopkeepers at the introduction of a one-way system into Kendal.

Some town centre traders said the change had reduced the number of customers coming into the town.

But a later independent report put the drop down to economic changes.
