| Wednesday, 15 January, 2003, 09:51 GMT Couple's nightmare on Leeds estate ![]() Fed up residents Mitchell Denby and Jenna Latouche A young couple living on a troubled Leeds housing estate say they are at their wits' end after bricks were thrown at their premature baby and their house was attacked. Mitchell Denby and Jenna Latouche, who live in the East End Park estate, say teenagers have thrown rubble at the pushchair carrying their prematurely-born baby and have kicked the door of their council-owned house in. The incidents are the latest in long line of problems on the east Leeds housing estate. The couple, who have lived in the area for eight months, say they now just want to get off the estate and feel nothing is being done to tackle the problems.
He added: "I think it (the estate) should be pulled down. "They (the youths) should be put on an estate together to terrorise each other." "I just just want out of this area, I feel like I'm stuck." Ms Latouche said: "Once they put you here, that's it, no-one wants anything to do with it." Hilary Benn, the Labour MP whose constituency covers part of East End Park, told BBC Radio Leeds: "The clear message should be people should not have to live like this, it is clearly intolerable. "It is a long-standing problem. "I think the most important thing is that people who live there feel a sense of hope. "That people are concerned about what's happening and that people are there to assist them." He added: "The high level of policing on the estate is very welcome." | See also: 07 Jan 03 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
