| Friday, 10 January, 2003, 16:03 GMT Children survive flat shooting ![]() Police are unsure about the motive for the shooting A man and a woman are recovering in hospital after they were injured by three gunmen at a north London flat. Police said the gang kicked down the door of the flat in Matthias Road, Stoke Newington, at about 0200 GMT on Friday and opened fire. Two boys, aged two and eight who were in the flat at the time, were unharmed. Another occupant broke his foot when he jumped from a window while making his escape. Ran off A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Officers attended a first floor flat, and found a man suffering a head wound and a woman suffering a gunshot wound to her arm. "It appears at this stage that three men, all armed with handguns, kicked in the door of the flat and confronted the occupants. "There was a struggle and the suspects fired a number of shots within the flat before running off." Open mind The injured pair, both in their 20s, are being treated in hospital. Their conditions are not thought to be serious. Police are keeping an open mind about the motive for the shooting.
