Teen close to Transatlantic record
Seb Clover
Seb Clover is racing his own father across the Atlantic
A teenager hoping to become the youngest Transatlantic sailor in history has passed the halfway mark in his record-breaking attempt.

Fifteen-year-old Seb Clover has less than 1,200 miles to go in his 2,700-mile challenge.

And he is just 50 miles behind his father, Ian, who he is up against in his single-handed race.

Seb, from Cowes on the Isle of Wight, who set out from Tenerife on Thursday, 19 December, has been training for the race since he was 12 years old.

Ian, aboard the 32-foot yacht Xixia, said: "The conditions really are superb, although my only company seems to be the occasional visit by dolphins coming to say hello or flying fish who crash into the yacht by accident.

"Seb is about 50 miles behind which may sound a lot but actually means he only has to average 0.3 of a knot more than me to be fighting to the finish. There is still everything to play for."

The race is now expected to finish at English Harbour, Antigua, on 10 January.
