Medal
Five Suffolk people are honoured by the Queen
An Ipswich school governor is among the five people from Suffolk honoured by the Queen in her New Year Honours.

Mary Rackham, who is a governor at Sidegate Primary School in the town, becomes an MBE.

The award is in recognition of the work she has done for education.

Christine Jackson, from Bury St Edmunds, is also made an MBE for her work with the voluntary sector in Suffolk.

Jill Harrison, who is head teacher at Riverside Middle School in Mildenhall, is made an MBE in recognition of the work she has done as chairman of the RAF Mildenhall British-American Community Relations Committee.

Two people from Suffolk are awarded the OBE.

John Chesworth, soon to retire as the artistic director of the National Youth Dance Company, is rewarded for his services to dance.

Julian Spicer, who lives in Bury St Edmunds, is honoured for his service to architectural heritage and to museums as a director of the Heritage of London Trust.
