| Monday, 30 December, 2002, 16:21 GMT Rivers remain on flood alert ![]() Many rivers have got flood warnings on them Homes in the East Midlands remain on alert with 20 flood warnings still in place on rivers and streams in the region. The Environment Agency is warning people living close to many of the region's rivers and brooks to check water levels. There has already been some localised flooding after 48 hours of sustained rain. The warnings are in place on stretches of the major rivers in the region including the River Trent in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
People living near the River Soar in Derbyshire and North West Leicestershire have also been warned to check levels. The flood warnings are medium alerts from the agency with some homes, businesses and main roads likely to be affected by flooding. More rain A spokeswoman for the Environment Agency said the warnings were mainly for low lying areas. "Our advice is for people to be vigilant and prepared and to phone our floodline to check flood warnings in the area." She also warned farmers to make sure livestock were not stranded by rising water levels. The Agency is also monitoring the situation with more rain forecast for Monday.
