Revellers warned in poster campaign
A barman pulls a pint in a pub
Pubs have radios linking them to a police control room
Revellers are being warned to behave - or face being caught on camera.

Posters are being put up across Newbury, Thatcham and Hungerford urging drinkers not to get in trouble.

The campaign aims to draw attention to the network of closed circuit television cameras in operation in the town centres.

Under the district's Pub Watch Scheme - which is run as a partnership between licensees and Thames Valley Police - landlords are given radios linking them to a police control room where CCTV camera operators work.

The idea is that licensees can warn the operators of any problems in or around their premises.

Tony Ferguson, West Berkshire District Council's executive member for public protection and waste, said: "Many of us enjoy a good night out from time to time.

"The message of this campaign is clear - 'Don't Spoil It On The Way Home' - and for those that do, there is a good chance the council's town centre CCTV system will catch them.

"Anti-social and criminal behaviour in our towns is unacceptable and no amount of festive spirit can excuse it."

Superintendent Jim Trotman, of Thames Valley Police, said: "CCTV contributes to making West Berkshire one of the safest places in the Thames Valley.

"We are pleased to support this campaign and will work in partnership with the council to ensure that where people do act in an unacceptable manner they are firmly dealt with.

"The festive period is a time for everyone to enjoy themselves but not at others' expense."
