| Thursday, 26 December, 2002, 11:39 GMT Changes to ease traffic congestion ![]() The moves should help traffic flow more freely Traffic engineers have announced planned changes to Kendal's traffic system. Experimental changes to the one-way system have now been made permanent and a number of other alterations are planned to make traffic flow more freely. The largest single project will be a new roundabout at Longpool near the railway station. But public consultation is taking place until the beginning of January on a number of other changes. One is a bus lane in Stricklandgate, to help public transport pass the queues which build up towards the Sandes Avenue lights. Another will be changes in priority to allow traffic to escape from Library Road at busy times. For traffic heading towards Windermere, there will be a longer filter lane in front of the bus station. Much of the work will be done out of peak hours, to reduce congestion. | See also: 24 Dec 02 | England 17 Dec 02 | Politics 05 Dec 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
