BBC graphic
A teenager has died after falling into the Manchester Ship Canal following a night out on Christmas Eve.

Stuart Jeffrey had been out in Warrington, Cheshire, when he fell into the canal.

Police divers found the 17-year-old's body near to Latchford Locks at 2045 GMT on Christmas Day.

They were called after cries for help were heard at about 0130 GMT the same day.

The teenager came from the Knutsford area of Cheshire.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "The death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

"The family are devastated and shocked by the sudden loss of their son and brother Stuart by this tragic accident.

"Stuart will be sadly missed and was much loved by his family and friends."

Papers are being prepared for the coroner following Stuart's death.
