The centre of Hull will be totally transformed under a masterplan being unveiled at a special exhibition.

Regeneration company Citybuild has been working with the city council, local businesses and residents to draw up the proposals.

If accepted, there could be 5,000 new jobs, housing for 5,000 residents and more than �1.5bn in private investment over the next 15 years.

The scheme is centred round five key projects: Heart of City, Quay West, Humber Quays, Fruit Market and River Hull.

Heart of City

Queen Victoria Square has been defined as the Heart of City, with the focus on landscaping.

One major development will be the creation of Albion Square - a new city square surrounded by offices and residential apartments.

Hull College will have its own quad, adding another area of "public space" with monuments, seating and planting.

The facility will also take in Queen's Gardens, which will be upgraded.

Retail Circuit

A retail circuit will be created giving shoppers easy access to open-air shops as well as the malls.

A new development - Quay West - will create a gateway to the city centre.

Retail and leisure facilities, offices and residential outlets are the key features.

Retail circuit will encompass Quay West, St Stephens, the Prospect Centre, Paragon Street and Jameson Street.

Humber Quays

The aim of Humber Quays is to reunite the city centre with the River Humber.

There will be waterfront offices, landscaped public areas, car parking, riverside promendade and flood defences.

This �12m redevelopment of the Island Wharf site is due before Hull City Council planners next month.

Food producer Northern Foods has already expressed an interest in moving its offices there.

Fruit Market

Hull's original walled city could be restored and developed for residential use as well as restaurants, shops and other leisure uses.

Encompassing visitor attraction The Deep, the aim is to restore the listed dry dock.

The fruit and vegetable market will be retained.

River Hull

Urban regeneration in the East Bank district of the River Hull will come in the shape of family housing, health and learning centres.

Key designs will be a riverside walk and new bridges.

The exhibition is being held on Monday and Tuesday at Ferens Art Gallery, Queen Victoria Square.
