| Thursday, 12 December, 2002, 16:48 GMT Oil slick threatens more sea birds ![]() Oiled birds have been on the East Anglian coast An oil slick which has affected hundreds of sea birds on the East Anglian coast is now threatening wildlife at the Lincolnshire resort of Cleethorpes. A team of council workers is working to clear the oil from the sea front. The source of the oil is unknown, although it is thought it may have leaked from an old wreck on the seabed. Already one bird has died off Cleethorpes and a seal has had to be rescued. High tide Andy Smith from North East Lincolnshire Council said: "The oil at the moment is in very small deposits. "It is being washed ashore and is being deposited at high tide. "The oil is not the liquid sort but in small nodules so that should limit the impact." Further down the coast, more than 600 oiled birds have been collected on the Norfolk and Suffolk coasts. Guillemots, razorbills, great crested grebes and red-throated divers have mainly been affected by the slick. | See also: 12 Dec 02 | England 05 Dec 02 | England 01 Dec 02 | England 21 Nov 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
