The manager of a hotel asked Jim Davidson to leave after the comedian repeatedly abused staff.

The former Generation Game host was staying at the Marriott Bristol Royal Hotel, for his appearance in his own production of Dick Whittington at the city's Hippodrome theatre.

But on Thursday, a spokesman for the four star hotel said: "We have asked him to leave.

"He displayed abusive and disrespectful behaviour towards staff and they are not prepared to tolerate such behaviour.

"They are disappointed he's taken it to the press but we have hundreds of guests each week who manage to stay happily."

The 49-year-old comic said: "It's difficult to be abusive when they don't speak English.

"I was paying �3,300 a week, the phones don't work, the showers don't work and the food's awful.

"I eventually spoke to a manager who was called Towers so I called him Fawlty - when he said he wanted me to leave, I thought it was a joke.

"The thing is I am not worried for me but the people of Bristol deserve better.

"The place is a joke - it's ridiculous."

In March, Mr Davidson, who received an OBE for charity work in 2001, was in the middle of a 45-venue UK tour. At the time he told BBC News Online: "Not a hotel has been any good."
