| Wednesday, 11 December, 2002, 09:07 GMT Flooded gas main pumped out ![]() Up to 100 engineers have worked to restore power Hundreds of homes and businesses remain without gas in an area of Leicester, eight days after supplies were cut off. Gas firm Transco said it was not able to reconnect anyone on Tuesday but said it hoped to have all homes reconnected by Wednesday evening. The gas supply to more than 1,600 properties in Belgrave failed last Tuesday after water got into a gas main. Six hundred pupils missed a week of lessons at Abbey Primary School after it was also cut off. Watch elderly The children were returning to school on Wednesday morning. Four hundred homes and business were still without power on Wednesday morning. Transco engineers said they have already pumped out more than 140,000 gallons from the effected gas main.
