A woodland for use in homeopathic medicine, is to be created in a Northamptonshire country park.

More than 600 native tree species will be planted and managed at Sywell Country Park.

Experts hope to use the area, owned by Northamptonshire County Council, for further research into homepathic remedies.

This long-term project is the brainchild of The Homeopathy Trust, the International Tree Foundation and Northamptonshire County Council.

'Hugely exciting'

Jim Wade, county council cabinet member for the environment, said: "We're hugely excited about this project.

"It will provide sustainable woodland that can be harvested for its homeopathic qualities, which is great news for everyone with an interest in complementary medicine.

"And because it's situated on one of our country parks, it means that the woodland is completely accessible to the public for recreational and educational purposes."

The homeopathy wood will be made up of primarily native trees appropriate to the locality.

These will include alder, birch, hornbeam, hawthorn, rowan and yew.

The trees will be planted over the weekend of 14 and 15 December by volunteers, including children and park rangers.

The trees have been sponsored by individuals including homeopaths, their patients, friends and family.
