Police warn of carpet conmen
Carpet at front door
Several people have been offered carpets
Police in Cornwall are warning people to check the identity of callers allegedly offering to fit carpets on behalf of the council.

Devon and Cornwall Police say they are looking for two men in connection with reports of bogus trading.

Several people in Newbridge, near Penzance, have been visited by the men.

Officers say people must always ask for identification cards when any traders call at their homes.

Carpet sale

The two men approached several homeowners saying Penwith District Council had authorised them to fit new carpets.

Left over pieces of carpeting may have also been offered for sale.

However, each householder has asked the men to leave without being taken in by the trick.

Police have said the first man they want to talk to is white, 5ft 8 ins (1.68 metres) tall, well built with short black hair and a moustache.

The second man is also white, 5ft 10ins (1.75 metres) tall, with crooked teeth and clean shaven.

Both are in their late 20s or early 30s and using a white Transit-type van.
