| Friday, 6 December, 2002, 13:43 GMT Village objections prompt mast rethink ![]() Protesters temporarily prevented work on the mast The owners of a telecommunications mast in north Cornwall have said they will consider moving it. The announcement by mast owners NTL follows a number of blockades of the site by local residents at Bossiney near Tintagel. Another blockade started on Friday morning. They are objecting to plans to add a Tetra mast to the existing communications mast.
The Tetra system is designed to improve communications for the police and other emergency services. Charles St George, from Airwave, which is installing the Tetra system, said the company is taking residents' concerns seriously. "We are obviously concerned that they are concerned," he said. "That is why NTL has made this offer of possibly moving this site if better alternatives can be found that cause less anxiety to local people. "If that is the case, and it meets our requirements, then we will go along with that." Protestors have already prevented equipment being delivered to the site in the north Cornwall village four times. They are concerned the mast poses a risk to health. | See also: 29 Nov 02 | England 19 Nov 02 | England 30 Apr 02 | UK 29 Jan 02 | England Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
