| Tuesday, 3 December, 2002, 20:28 GMT Official inquiry into boat crash ![]() The boat hit scaffolding on Trent Bridge in Nottingham An investigation has begun into how a river cruiser crashed into Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The inquiry by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) will look at why the Nottingham Princess collided with the bridge, leaving it stranded for days. The incident occurred on the evening of 15 November when there were 131 people on board. No one was seriously injured but passengers had to be helped to safety by the emergency services. Smashed window The Nottingham Princess was travelling downstream and struck scaffolding surrounding the bridge. The cruiser was then swung against the north buttress by the strong river current. A scaffolding pole crashed through one of the windows on the lower deck. Passengers were taken off the vessel on a hydraulic lift, but the boat could not be freed until 18 November. A report will be published by MAIB but no deadline for the inquiry has been set. | See also: 18 Nov 02 | England 16 Nov 02 | England 17 Nov 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
