| Thursday, 21 November, 2002, 07:13 GMT Additive ban improves class behaviour ![]() Staff have banned 27 additives from school meals A school in Worcestershire has banned all additives from its meals to stop children behaving badly. Barnabas first and middle school in Drakes Broughton banned 27 additives - including the yellow colouring in custard - during a two week trial. Staff started the trial after discovering a study suggested one in four children have tantrums as a result of eating too many additives. After two weeks staff say they noticed a marked improvement in pupils' behaviour Sleeping better Headteacher Charlie Lupton said children's concentration levels had also improved since the trial started. "We carried out a survey of the parents to find out if they had noticed a difference in their children's behaviour," he said. "More than 30% of parents noticed their children were better behaved during the trial and 18% said their children were sleeping better."
