| Tuesday, 19 November, 2002, 12:25 GMT Popstars hopeful hurt in crash ![]() Thousands of people auditioned for the show A partially blind singer from Merseyside who auditioned for Popstars: The Rivals has been involved in a car crash. The accident involving Andrew Coleman, who failed to reach the top 50 in the TV show, comes after two other Popstars hopefuls died in separate accidents. Mr Coleman, who has glaucoma, fears his vision has been made worse by the crash. He was travelling home to Knowsley from a talent show with his parents when their car was hit from behind and overturned.
Mr Coleman still hopes to release a single that he is recording with blind record producer Robin Millar. On Tuesday Mr Coleman's mother Anne said: "We were quite near home and I was already turning right when we were hit from behind. "The force of it turned us around and flipped us over. It was a nasty crash. "My husband, Jim, managed to free himself and he pulled me free but Andrew was stuck in the back. "He had a bang on the head and that may have damaged his optic nerve. That could make his vision worse but we don't know yet." | See also: 11 Nov 02 | Entertainment 02 Nov 02 | Entertainment 28 Oct 02 | Entertainment 27 Oct 02 | Entertainment 01 Oct 02 | Entertainment 08 Sep 02 | Entertainment Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
