Roman Catholic Hill, 68, the former chaplain of Gatwick Airport, pleaded guilty to six charges of indecent assault on three boys aged 10 to 14. Appearing at the Old Bailey on Monday, he was remanded in custody and warned he faces a prison sentence for his crimes. A further eight similar charges are to be left on file and not proceeded with. Custodial sentence Hill, of Lingfield, Surrey, was jailed for five years in 1997 for a string of sex offences against boys. He was freed on parole in 2000. His case caused controversy when it was revealed the head of the Catholic Church in England and Wales, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, had given him a job despite being warned he posed a serious risk to children. The latest charges relate to assaults carried out between 1969 and 1987 - the same period covered by the previous court case.
Some are thought to have been investigated by police after alleged victims contacted them following the first court case. Others came to light during counselling he received at the Wolvercote Clinic in Surrey, where sex offenders are encouraged to talk about their crimes. Hill had originally denied all the charges which dated from 1959 to 1989. The case against him was not opened in court. He was remanded in custody until Thursday, when he is likely to be given a jail sentence. Judge Christopher Moss said: "The result of this matter is inevitable - the question is the length." | See also: 28 Mar 02 | England 09 Feb 02 | UK 19 Jul 00 | UK Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
