Leeds youngsters join crime fight
Schoolchildren with new trees
Branching out... police officer Dave Harrison with the schoolchildren
Schoolchildren in north Leeds are joining the fight against crime.

After a spate of robberies in the Wood Lane area of Headingley, police have stepped up patrols and secured funding from the Community Against Drugs Initiative to carry out environmental improvements.

Overgrown trees and vegetation on both sides of the road have blocked street lighting and offered hiding places for criminals.

The trees and vegetation are being cut down to open up the streets and foothpaths.

Schoolchildren from the area are planting new trees in the grounds of a school to replace those which have been removed.
