Film marks OAP's African adventure
Audrey Salkeld
Mrs Salkeld braved thin and cold air on the peak
A woman from Cumbria in her 60s, who has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, has had a film made about her adventure.

Cumbrian author and historian Audrey Salkeld, from Penrith, climbed the tallest peak in Africa as part of a five-strong team aged from 13 to 64.

Mrs Salkeld, the oldest member of the team, has been a researcher and consultant on many films including "Everest", another giant-screen film directed by David Breashears.

The mother-of-three braved the cold and thin air to top the mountain.

Trekkers' progress

On Monday her experiences in Tanzania were revealed in a final cut of the film, which premiered at the Rheged Centre, near Penrith.

Kilimanjaro - to the Roof of Africa, follows the progress of the trekkers up the 19,340ft mountain.

The film features the exotic wildlife surrounding the peak, as well as the climb to the top.

There are screenings throughout the week at Rheged, as part of the Kendal Mountain Film Festival.
