A family-run fish and chip shop in Derbyshire has served up a famous dish with customers being given their meals by a Bollywood film star.

Although Ram Asra is on the verge of international stardom he can still be found dishing up fish and chips at the family business in Long Eaton.

Asra stars in the latest Bollywood blockbuster Hum Hain Pyaar Mein which has been getting rave reviews in Asia.

But he says the only place he can relax is back in his home town - not too far from a fish fryer.

"Here, these are my friends. They are not going to treat me as a star," he insisted.

"We are going to be friends. This is the only place where I can come and relax myself."

He has spent seven years modelling and appearing in adverts on Indian television.

But now he is set for stardom in the film, which translates as "We're in Love" and has a potential worldwide audience of one billion people.

Family's pride

His brother and agent Surjit Kumar said: " We are very proud of him.

"We couldn't wish for a better brother - he is perfect.

"We have never been jealous of each other in any aspect at all."

The film opens in the UK at the Piccadilly and Bell Vue cinemas in Leicester and at the Cornerhouse in Nottingham on 6 December.
