| Sunday, 3 November, 2002, 17:49 GMT Village calls for bypass changes ![]() Resident fear the new bypass will increase traffic Residents in a Leicestershire village are holding their own exhibition of plans for a controversial bypass. People living in Earl Shilton say they have not been properly consulted about the details of the scheme. Campaigners had fought for a bypass around the village to relieve congestion. But many now believe current plans could create noise, pollution and traffic chaos. Busy traffic Leicestershire County Council is proposing to put junctions along the Earl Shilton Bypass where it crosses existing roads. However protesters are demanding the route is cut into land around the village and bridges built over it for existing roads ensuring busy traffic is not drawn along them. And they say not enough has been done to consult local people about the plans. Over the next two weeks, two exhibitions will be held in Earl Shilton and nearby Elmesthorpe. People's views will then be passed on to the council leaders who consider the plans next month. | Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
