The chief executive of East Midlands Ambulance service has retired.

Adrian Chubb had been suspended on full pay since March this year.

He had been the subject of an investigation after it was alleged he told paramedics to ignore 999 alerts from a persistent caller.

An external investigator was appointed and Mr Chubb suspended on full pay from his �74, 000 a year post which he had taken up less than a year before.

The incident is thought to relate to an incident in February in Leicester when Mr Chubb was travelling with an ambulance crew to observe its work.

East Midlands Ambulance Service says Mr Chubb has been treated in the same way as any other employee of the service.

It will not say whether this marks the end of the investigation.

Mr Chubb is said to be considering his options to remain involved in health and social care services.
