| Monday, 28 October, 2002, 17:11 GMT Harrods boss in bus lane row ![]() Harrods officials say they were not properly consulted Plans to put a bus lane outside Harrods has put transport chiefs at odds with the store's flamboyant owner, Mohamed al-Fayed. Transport for London officials met Harrods executives at the Knightsbridge store on Monday to discuss a new bus lane on the A4 Brompton Road. TfL say the lane, due to be installed in two weeks - will be an important bus route into London used by 1,000 passengers an hour. But officials at the store claim it will interfere with deliveries, cause congestion by reducing two lanes to one and have accused TfL of not consulting them properly. Safety improvements Harrods spokesman Christopher Morris told BBC London: "This is an order made by Transport for London which is without argument, legal or otherwise. "It is imposed and that is it, there is nothing motorists or residents can do about it, other than complain." TfL says it sent out nearly 1,000 letters about the lane to residents and businesses. A spokesman said the lane was linked to safety improvements at nearby Scotch Corner, where 51 pedestrians have been injured in the past year. |
