Prisoner dead after riot named
Riot police
It took nearly eight hours to regain control of the prison
A prisoner found dead in his cell at Lincoln jail, a day after an eight hour riot was quelled, has been named as 37-year-old Lee Blake from Scunthorpe.

A post mortem on Friday discovered that he died from a drugs overdose.

Lincolnshire Police say the city's coroner will open an inquest early next week.

During the riot on Wednesday night the pharmacy was looted and more than 20 prisoners were taken to hospital - many of them suffering from suspected overdoses.

Damage

The riot started just before 2000 BST when a small group of inmates attacked a prison guard, beating him over the head with his own truncheon and locking him in a cell.

The prisoners stole the officers' keys and unlocked more than 150 cells, before setting fire to three parts of the jail and smashing windows.

Lee Blake was found dead in his bed at around 1000 BST on Friday.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police said "we can confirm that a body was found".

After the riot a spokesman for the Prison Officers' Association said the damage to the Victorian jail was likely to reach 2m.

Three prison officers were injured in the riot, and 24 prisoners were taken to hospital, mainly suffering the effects of drugs.
