Hospital struggling to beat bug

The hospital has been hit by a vomiting bug
Four wards remain closed at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon, more than a week after the outbreak of a winter vomiting disease.

The illness particularly attacks hospital patients whose resistance is low.

Two medical wards were originally shut at the start of last week but this soon rose to four.

Children, elderly people, and pregnant women were being advised not to go to the hospital, except in an emergency.

On Tuesday morning a spokeswoman for Hinchingbrooke said the situation was now improving.

Reopening hope

Each ward needs to be isolated for 48 hours after the last episode.

In-patient capacity manager Rachel Watt said the hospital was now hoping to reopen two of the wards within the next 24 hours.

Friends and relatives of patients are being advised to check with the hospital before visiting.

Meanwhile across the rest of the region the families of patients at Kettering General and Milton Keynes General are still being asked to avoid visits.

The virus is still keeping several wards closed at the hospitals.
