A young City worker suspended over a lewd e-mail which was passed on to tens of thousands of people has resigned.

Trevor Luxton, 22, left his job as an administrator with French bank Credit Lyonnais on Monday, following an internal investigation into abuse of its e-mail policy.

The notorious email described Mr Luxton's alleged sexual exploits with a friend's ex-girlfriend, while he was speaking to his fianc�e on the telephone.

One of the messages attached to the original e-mail claimed he had denied writing the story.

Mr Luxton was suspended on full pay by French bank Credit Lyonnais during the investigation.

A statement from the bank said: "Credit Lyonnais has accepted the resignation of Trevor Luxton, there will be no further comment."

Mr Luxton's father Barry, from West Ham, east London earlier said of the e-mail: "If he worked at my firm, he would be sacked for that."
