| Thursday, 17 October, 2002, 14:06 GMT 15:06 UK Inquiry over salmonella outbreak ![]() The salmonella bug causes vomiting and diarrhoea Investigations are continuing into the source of a salmonella outbreak in Cheshire. A 50-year-old man was admitted to Leighton Hospital in Crewe with a separate medical condition and developed symptoms of salmonella. He died at the hospital on Wednesday morning. A spokeswoman for the Central Cheshire Primary Care Trust said the hospital did not yet know the cause of the man's death. Rare strain Last weekend, an elderly man, also from Cheshire, died after developing salmonella poisoning. The rare strain of salmonella, enteritidis PT 14b, has been blamed for making more than 150 people in Cheshire and London ill since early September. Symptoms include diarrhoea, vomiting and fever.
