'Busy night' for flooded East Anglia
Flooding at Kessingland in Suffolk
Flooding hit Kessingland in Suffolk
People in East Anglia are clearing up after a night of bad weather which caused flooding across the region and left emergency services stretched to capacity.

In Suffolk, more than 200 calls were made to the emergency services, while in Norfolk the fire brigade received 50 calls by midnight.

In Essex, residents of Kirby Cross near Frinton are clearing up the damage caused by a mini-whirlwind on Tuesday afternoon.

Assistant divisional fire officer Richard Chandler of the Suffolk fire brigade said: "It was quite a busy night really."

Schools closed

In Suffolk, the flooding affected northern and coastal areas and more rain is expected on Wednesday.

Several schools in the Lowestoft area are to remain closed on Wednesday due to flooding.

Mr Chandler said 11 of the call-outs were "of a hazardous nature", and five were to potentially life-threatening incidents.

In Norfolk, the worst-hit areas overnight were Stalham, Fakenham and Dereham, and a flood warning is in place on the River Bure between Corpusty and Brampton.

High winds are causing more chaos in the King's Lynn area on Wednesday morning.

Fallen trees blocked the A47 and A10 earlier, and police have warned drivers to beware of surface water.

In Essex, fire brigade crews were called out to flooding incidents in Dovercourt, Harwich and Rayleigh.

There were also reports of damage caused by severe winds in Frinton-on-Sea.
