| Saturday, 12 October, 2002, 08:35 GMT 09:35 UK Tide holes town's sea wall ![]() The hole has caused road closures in Shaldon High tides and easterly winds have opened up a hole in a sea wall in a town on a Devon estuary. The wall, in Shaldon on the Teign Estuary, supports the road Marine Parade. The cavity in the wall is three metres wide, three metres high and extends two metres into the wall It has undermined Marine Parade, which will be closed while repair work is carried out. Bore holes Engineers have begun work to reconstruct the wall. Bore holes are being drilled form the road surface down into the hole so it can be filled with concrete. Diversionary routes have been set up around the area. A spokesman for Devon County Council said the damage to the wall was "significant". It is estimated the work will take at least a fortnight to complete.
