Cycle patrols extended across city
Cycle patrol in Oxford
The cycle patrols have proved very effective
Police officers on mountain bikes in Oxford have proved so effective more cycle patrols have been introduced in the city.

Cycle patrols have now been extended to the Rose Hill, Littlemore and Blackbird Leys areas of the city.

The patrols began six months ago in east Oxford.

In that time car theft has been cut by a third and burglary by a fifth in the area, according to Thames Valley Police.

A police spokeswoman said: "The patrols have proved very effective.

"The officers provide a highly visible police presence and target known offenders and crime hotspots."
