| Friday, 4 October, 2002, 12:08 GMT 13:08 UK Legionnaires' hospital sterilised ![]() A showerhead was found to be the disease source The water supply to a wing of the Leicester Royal Infimary is being cut off while the entire system is disinfected, following a case of Legionnaires' disease. The work is being carried out after it was confirmed that a shower head in the hospital's Bone Marrow Transplant Unit was the source of the bug. A female patient was identified as having a mild form of the disease a week ago. She was given antibiotics and is now fully recovered. Bottled water The affected showers are being replaced and the unit will not re-open until public health officials are satisfied it is safe. The system, which supplies water to the whole of the Windsor building, is being disinfected on Friday night as a precaution. The work, which will affect hundreds of patients, will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption.
