Funeral of shot mother and child
Steve Hamar and his daughter Tori
Tori's father is devastated by the loss of his daughter
Family, friends and neighbours of a mother and her six-year-old daughter shot dead in Somerset have attended their funeral.

Tori Hamar and her mother Kaeran were apparently killed in the village of Horton by Mrs Hamar's ex-boyfriend Peter O'Hare on 17 September.

Mr O'Hare's body was found nearby after he shot himself.

The pair were buried after a service at St Andrew's parish church in Wiveliscombe close to the home of Tori's father, Steven Hamar.

Kaeren Hamar

Mr Hamar, head gamekeeper of a commercial shoot based in his home village, separated from his wife two years ago.

The couple had remained on friendly terms and he saw their daughter regularly at weekends and during school holidays.

At the funeral, attended by 300 mourners, the coffins were followed into the church by close family and friends.

Reverend Graham Owen, who conducted the funeral, spoke about Tori, describing her love of animals, riding her bike and dressing up.

He said: "Even though she had only really just begun her life, we could see already in all these things that she had naturally such a gentle and loving way about her and her loss is also impossible to bear."

Mr Owen described her mother as a "larger-than-life" character who would be greatly missed.

Wreaths accompanying the coffins included flowers from the inquiry team at Avon and Somerset police who investigated the shootings.

Before the funeral, Mr Hamar said: "I have been robbed of a daughter.

"She was a ray of sunshine. She was always happy, always saw the best in people - just perfect really."

Peter O'Hare

Kaeran Hamar had ended a turbulent relationship with Peter O'Hare earlier in the year and she had moved to Horton to rebuild her life.

She met him through a dating agency after splitting with husband.

Mr Hamar said Mr O'Hare should never have been given a firearms licence.

Police were called to Horton, near Ilminster, by residents who heard shots being fired in Broadside, a quiet cul-de-sac.

Mrs Hamar was found dead in a neighbour's car.

She had jumped in, in an attempt to escape. Her daughter was found close by.

Mr O'Hare's body was discovered in a nearby garden.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the shootings.
