Hundreds of staff at telecoms giant WorldCom's Berkshire site are facing redundancy.

On Monday the company announced it was shedding 2,000 jobs - 750 from its UK operations.

WorldCom has yet to give a detailed breakdown of the redundancies but it is understood the majority will come from its plant in Reading.

The company employs 2,500 people at its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) headquarters in Reading and another 600 at Cambridge.

Lucy Woods, WorldCom EMEA senior vice president, said: "There will be a significant number in Reading but we don't know yet how many each country or location will take."

WorldCom filed for bankruptcy protection in July amid revelations it had uncovered more than �4.5bn worth of accounting errors.
